接續中部山地調查之後，民國四十五年暑期，程教授再度率領師生溯蘭陽溪（舊名宜蘭濁水溪），深入宜蘭縣太平鄉（今大同鄉）、南澳鄉進行園藝資源調
查。此次路線大致涵蓋今日中橫公路宜蘭支線、蘇花公路北段。尤其自太平
山林場翻越獨立山直抵南澳的路線，至今仍因山林保育因素而未開闢道路，
其間的文字紀錄彌足珍貴。
